Our History

It had been the burden of Dr. Gordon D. Aikin, senior pastor of Central Assembly of God in Muskegon to plant a church in the Coopersville area. After much prayer and confirmation from the Holy Spirit, the man was chosen to pastor the church. In September of 1998, Pastor Wesley and Serena DeVries came on staff at Central Assembly of God for the sole reason to plant a church in Coopersville.

For the next number of months, demographics from the town were studied and prayed over to determine the needs of the area. An all out door to door campaign was launched to invite every person possible, in the city, to the church opening. There was also an area wide mail out describing the mission and vision of CFWC that was mailed to Coopersville, Eastmanville, Lamont, and Allendale. A group of 15 adults were chosen and trained to temporarily attend Central Family Worship Center, to assist in any way that they could, in the planting and establishment of the church. This included a praise team that insured worship to be of the best quality.

On February 6th of 1999, Central Family Worship Center had it’s first service at the Coopersville High School auditorium at 6:00 PM. Twenty seven people from the community attended the introduction of the first Pentecostal church in Coopersville. For the next 5 months, the team from Muskegon worked to build relationships with people and businesses in the community. This was done through free car washes, and different outreaches.

On June 26th, the team from Muskegon and the Aglow chapter of the Muskegon area, put on a city wide outreach, with free food for everyone and games for the kids. There were many giveaways and prizes that were given throughout the festivities of the day. Some went home with bicycles and others with Volleyball sets. Teen Challenge assisted in the presentation of the Gospel, as well as the CFWC praise team providing contemporary worship.

June 27th CFWC had it’s grand opening on Sunday morning at the Coopersville Community Center. Over 50 people from the Coopersville area attended. Central Family Worship Center has continued to grow as the presentation of the full Gospel of Jesus Christ permeates this city. Today, now meeting in our own church building, we are continuing to reach out and share Jesus with our community, believing in God for a tremendous harvest in the days to come.
